P.S. Four Natural Energizers For Days When Bed Seems Too Soft

Between the cold weather, bad sinuses, and dark mornings I have had the hardest time waking up. I feel like my eyes are literally swollen shut and that there is no way in hell that the time my phone says is right. However, my phone is often better at telling time than I am, and I have to drag myself out of the bed in a very slow and painful process. I have found a few things that have made the process go a little faster though, and surprisingly, none of them involve coffee.

1. Stretch- I know this sounds absolutely awful first thing in the morning. I also know that if you are anything like me, your bones sound like a house collapsing when you first get out of bed in the morning. Continuous aching and bone-cracking is not going to make you want to get up and start your day. It doesn't have to be much. I do about five to ten minutes worth of my favorite yoga poses before I hop in the shower. Most importantly, the stretching gives me enough energy to not fall asleep underneath the hot water.

2. Drink Water- This one sounds pretty obvious, but don't knock it until you try it correctly. I was always under the impression that I could shower, come down and eat breakfast, then drink a little glass of water. Turns out, studies suggest drinking water first thing when you wake up on an empty stomach helps to energize the brain. It makes sense, after eight hours of sleeping you're bound to be dehydrated!

3. Shower- This is for all the college students. I know what it's like to wake up and have to go out into the cold for your morning class, especially as a commuter. I also know, that as soon as you get to class you are dozing off or staring at a particle of dust that landed on the girl in front of you. Just take the extra half an hour and shower before you go to class. You'll be able to concentrate much better. I have nothing against grimy at all, promise.

4. Set Yourself Up- Set yourself up with something short and fun to look at or read in the morning. I have found that if I save myself a youtube video, short article, or blog to check up on in the morning that I have a much easier time motivating myself. Just give yourself five minutes when you wake up to look at something pretty or read something really interesting, and slipping out from under the covers will seem way more fun.

  1. I love all of these tips, number 4 especially! I tend to look at my fiance or my pomeranian to motivate myself to get out of bed, although that doesn't always seem to work!
