Style Story: Jim Spindler

Jim Spindler has a unique style that is constantly changing. Playing with different mediums of dress, one day you can see him in sharp dress clothes with precisely folded French cuffs, and the next you can see him in his motorcycle gear (yes, he really does have one!) You may know him as the man with the pipe, the man with the wide-brimmed hat, or just your stylish peer with a unique take on what it means to be fashionable.

In this look Jim is wearing DC Skate shoes from Zumiez, pants from a thrift store, shirt from Eddie Bauer, jacket from Triumph Motorcycle Company, watch from Kenneth Cole, pipe from Stanwell Pipe, hat from Block Headwear, and sunglasses from Sunglass Hut.

Jim has an extensive tobacco pipe collection consisting of six extremely detailed pipes. “This pipe is made from something called briar root. It is a hard, shrub-like plant that is very heat-resistant. Briar is the most common type of pipe material and has been in use since the 1800s.”

Jim’s “fancy look” consists of pants and shirt from Joseph and Feiss, belt from a thirftstore, Bostonian shoes, and a Campia Moda bowtie.

“People want to take the easy way out with dress clothes. They want to look good without the effort. I  don’t do that. For example, I always wear French cuffs.”
(French cuffs are a wide cuff for a shirt sleeve that is folded back and fastened with a cuff link.)

“This pipe is made from a substance called meerschaum. It is a
relatively soft mineral and is found mainly in turkey. Meerschaum has been
used in making pipes since the early 1700s. My pipe is imported from
Turkey by a company called IMP Meerschaum.”

Jim got his tattoos done by Sleepy Hollow Tattoo Parlor.

In his final look, Jim is wearing shorts from Arizona Jean Company, hat from Henshel Hat Co. (bought fro a boardwalk store in Florida), moccasins from LL Bean, and B.D.G. shirt.
